Review: Penthouse Prince By Virginia Nelson

Title: Penthouse Prince
Author: Virginia Nelson
Published Date: February 9th 2015

Single mom Jeanie Long was trying to save her butt at work by reporting her manager to the company owner. Instead, she finds herself greeted warmly by gorgeous company CEO Camden James...and introduced to his father as his fiancée. Now she's been hired—complete with a hefty pay raise—to be the fake fiancée of the infamous “Penthouse Prince.”
Camden doesn't believe in love. He believes in mutually beneficial business arrangements. With his real fiancée off cheating on him, Camden needs someone to help him prove to his father that he's definitely ready to marry. Yet Jeanie's combination of beauty and bluntness act like an aphrodisiac, and their “for the press” kisses look incredibly real. So real that Jeanie and Camden are either really convincing actors...or they've fallen for their own charade.(Synopsis Provided By Goodreads)
Camden James needs to appease his father's wishes if he has any hope of taking full control of the family business. The one last command he needs to follow is marry someone and settle down. How does one insanely hot playboy/millionaire businessman do this exactly? He treats it like any other business deal. With enough money, you can buy anything you want, including a bride.

Jeanie Long just needs enough time to convince the big boss not to fire her. She's got a lot riding on this job and losing it would not be beneficial. Jeanie may have the best timing in the world because one moment she's single mom Jeanie-who-is-struggling-to-pay-bills and in the next moment, she's Jeanie Long-soon-to-be-Mrs. Camden James. With a marriage proposal and a wife salary to go along with it, how does Jeanie refuse an offer like this? Simple, she doesn't.

This is going to be a short and simple review. I just enjoyed reading The Penthouse Prince! It was one of those ebooks that I had lying around and just sort of selected to open. The characters were alright with a good story to ground everyone. Very easy read and quick too. I recommend this for anyone looking to kill sometime before picking up some heavier books or more 'serious' novels.

Camden James was the hot body CEO running a million dollar business - nothing groundbreaking for these types of novels - but as always I think each one of these guys, no matter how cliche the story line is, brings a unique hot arrogance to their characters. What was unique about Camden was his approach to buying a wife. As misogynistic as that may come across - it was mutual so stow the potential arguments away please. The woman in question is single mom Jeanie Long. She's the girl who's trying to support herself and her kid. At the end of the day she wanted the offer Camden made her; be my 'pretend' wife legally and in return I'll give you the money to live comfortably. Camden only pursues Jeanie because his father wants him married before he hands over the company to him fully. As Camden gets to know Jeanie through their 'fake' appearances together, he actually develops feelings toward her. At first its purely sexual but as the stories usually go, emotional feelings bloom too. It was great to watch Camden and Jeanie come to love one another. It goes from fun and games to an actual relationship. There was the sexual tension, that jealousy and ultimately the caring for one another that really made what Camden and Jeanie had awesome.

I think there was potential for Camden's and Jeanie's characters to have more spunk or more passion. Everything about them is good but definitely could have had more angst and tension to build more dynamic between the two of them.

As for the plot and general storyline, it was a little predictable. What was going to happen with Jeanie and her 'hesitant' feelings about falling in love with Camden and vice versa was not as suspenseful as I would have liked. A little lacking because there wasn't enough angst portrayed for the reader to BELIEVE that there was a possibility they wouldn't end up together. They both don't know if it's a smart move to get attached because they believe it is all for pretend but nothing is fully convincing for the reader. There was plenty of room for another problem to arise that was more climatic.
I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.
The writing and characters felt right. Nothing pushes this book to be GREAT but still a good casual read for those who enjoy contemporary romances with arrogant-but-sweet guys.

AS ALWAYS,
HAPPY READING!

  1. I read this too months ago and liked it too. Though, I've come to notice that most Entangled Indulgence imprints pretty much have the same concept going on, mainly billionaires or businessmen, lol. Great review! :)
